About McCormick, SC - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Situated in McCormick County, South Carolina, McCormick is a town with an estimated population of more than 2.800 residents. It’s the county seat of McCormick County and named in the honor of businessperson and inventor Cyrus Hall McCormick, who founded the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company.
In the mid-eighteenth century, German, Scot-Irish and French Huguenot farmers settled in the area now known as McCormick. After Cherokee Indians massacred some of the early inhabitants at Long Cane in 1760, Fort Charlotte was subsequently built by the British to protect the region from external threats.
Around 1850, locals discovered gold at the site where McCormick now stands. One of the most productive South Carolina gold mines in the 19th century, the Dorn Gold Mine - which also produced manganese later on - was purchased in 1869 by Cyrus McCormick. In 1882, he donated land for the town and the mine continued operation until the 1930s.
As of today, the town of McCormick is home to M.L.B Sturkey House, Dorn’s Flour and Grist Mill, McCormick Train Station, Joseph Jennings Dorn House, McCormick County Courthouse, Eden Hall, Hotel Keturah, Farmer’s Bank, Otway Henderson House and John Gibert M.D. House, all of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
McCormick is known to provide world-class services to all residents equitably in a caring, responsive and efficient manner. The town boasts a mixed housing stock of old and new, giving homebuyers plenty to choose from. Several shopping and restaurant options are also available to satisfy the needs of residents.
If you are a golf enthusiast, the McCormick Country Club is a good place to practice your golf swing. The Hickory Knob State Park - which covers 1,091-acres alongside Lake Thurmond - boasts a variety of recreational opportunities. For hiking and biking, the Savannah Valley Railroad Trail provides nearly 20 miles of McCormick County to explore. There are also a number of schools situated in and around McCormick.
The town receives 45 inches of rainfall and 1 inches of snowfall per year. With the average high in the summer months around 93 degrees, it’s important to have a reliable air conditioning system in place to maintain comfort in your home. Furthermore, since the mercury drops as low as 32 degrees in the winter months, you will need a heat pump to keep your home warm and comfortable.
